By | September 4, 2012

Anyone that knows anything about Kansas City knows that barbeque is the city’s signature food. However, there is more to the area than just the sweet smell of pork and you can see it as soon as you enter the city limits. The dining scene engulfs what KC is all about culturally and spiritually, ranging from the down-home cooking to the indigenous cuisine. One thing is certain- your taste buds will be jumping for days on end. Blair Stover has compiled a short list of some fantastic places for you to visit.

River Market- This market great for its fresh produce but it also has a wonderful dining selection as well. The restaurants range from a traditional Ethiopian-style cuisine featured at the famous Blue Nile Café to the French cuisine offered up a Le Fou Frog.

Downtown- KC has a great downtown area featuring every genre you can think of. Cupini’s Italian Restaurant is a local hotspot if you are looking for pasta or you can try your luck with some authentic Irish Pub music.

Crossroads Arts District- Grinder’s Pizza has some of the best Philly cheesesteaks you will put in your mouth along with some mouth-watering NY-style pizza. If that doesn’t suit you, just head a little south to the upscale eatery, Lidia’s.

Westside- The Hispanic side of KC is at Westside and it is home to Manny’s Restaurante Mexicano, a wonderful Mexican restaurant where you will be serenaded by a mariachi band. You can also run by La Bodega which serves the best tapas in KC.

Crown Center- This area is full of fine dining restaurants like Crayola Café, Fritz’ Railroad Restaurant and the Kabuki Japanese Restaurant. You can also try your luck with Pierpont’s or Harvey’s House Diner.
