Kansas City Night Life: 7 New Spots to Visit

By | August 27, 2012

Ever since the dawn of the Jazz era, Kansas City has been a great place for nightlife. Nowadays, there are so many choices for fun outings, that you practically need to work from a list. Here’s the list:

The top two places out of our chosen seven are Downtown and Westport, which will come as no surprise to local social mavens. Even though these venues have been talked to death, Downtown’s Marquee Lounge and Westport’s Firefly Lounge are the cream of the crop.

Danny’s Big Easy is one of the best places to hear music in Kansas City. Situated in the historic Vine district, you are sure to come away with an earful. To get in touch with some of the city’s German heritage, check out the Crossroads Arts District’s incredible watering hole, Wunderbar at Grunauer. At the Wunderbar, you can enjoy beers from all over the world and order some of the best, authentic German food this side of the Berlin Wall.

In the same neighborhood as the Wunderbar, look for a real speakeasy experience at Manifesto, a uniquely Kansas City creation. You will think you took a time machine trip back to the days of the 20s and 30s, so real is its throwback atmosphere and ambiance.

On Grand Avenue, look for the Czar Bar, which is known as an upscale dive, a perfect place to mingle, munch on a few bar bites, and hear all sorts of music. When you leave the Czar Bar, head over to the West Bottoms for some truly wonderful food at the R Bar, where you can enjoy music while you dine on the upscale fare.

This list is not all-inclusive, as any local will tell you. So, rather than feel tied to the seven choices above, be sure to ask anyone where the good local eating and drinking establishments are. You will get plenty of advice, since Midwesterners are not only friendly, but also rather talkative.
